What you might ask? Well... I'l tell you!

So Jordan and I are going to the mall the other day, the southland for those that care, not doing too much. Mostly we were just walking around, seeing what's new. We did have to stop by Ben Moss to chat it up with J and to pick up the mother in-law's family ring (Blech!), but we finally made it to the Library, where we've been taking out movie after movie, and TV show after TV show for a VERY long time... and what happens right when we walk in... one of the women behind the counter automaticly grabs the DVD's we have on hold and brings them to the desk.

HOW GREAT (and bad) IS THAT!

I mean, they must have caught on by now that we are not watching all of them before they are due back at the library... I wonder if they are thinking anything? But I was trying to decide if it was illegal to do what we are doing. Because I know that it's only illegal to upload (ie. the library giving me the disc) and not to download (ie. me accepting the disc).. so yeah that was the quandry the other day. Nothing else new or exciting... wrong! Jord got a new laptop, thats NEW and EXCITING... it's pretty... I'm sure she blogged about it (but without detail I'm sure, so ask me about it if you want)

Interesting<dot><dot><dot>

So here's me... sorta...

That was the sound of my arm breaking from all the twisting (and other abuse) its been getting over not writing on my blog as much as I should... I get the message already!

I really can't think of much to actually talk about, not that you can get mad at me for that... this a forced blog after all. So I don't think that I ever told you all that I got a new (well new for me) camera a while back. The Canon Rebel DSLR. It a really nice digital camera, but its not digital the way you probably think it is. It doesn't take the picture digitally, it just stores it that way. So instead of having film it uses digital images, but it has lenses and stuff that a "normal" digital wouldn't. It's a 6.0mp (not huge nowadays, but back in the day it was the best). And although it can do a point and shoot mode I try really hard to just use the manual settings. Granted those don't always turn out the best because lets face it... I have no training, I've only read the manual (YES! You heard right... a male actually read an owners manual!) Oh well, I still have fun with it, and think I'm getting better.

What else can I talk about? I mostly deal with the immediate needs that come up (anything within 72 hours) such as people calling in sick or need bereavement leave. But I was also one of the few people trained for a specific area... Home Care! Sounds glamorous eh? In reality it is a very hard cluster to schedule, they don't follow most of the rules that the other units have to, mostly due to the very odd hours that most of them work. So on top of knowing both the CUPE and SUN contracts inside and out, I have to know how to manipulate them in ways that most of the other schedulers wouldn't even dream of touching. It requires a lot of multi-directional thinking, which apparently I'm very good at! It's one of the jobs you get that you know you're good at, and your boss and peers know your good at, so you all know that your pretty much indispensable... always a great feeling! I have to say though, getting this job was such a God thing! It's not only something that I enjoy, but it paid well enough that I was able to support Jordan and I while Jordan had a very short and busy summer.

The Present:
School will be starting soon, and my job with the RQHR will be coming to an almost grinding halt. Even though I am very good at my job, everything is in the Union, including me, and all of us are ranked by seniority (me being closer to the bottom then the top). All of that boils down to me being able to be prebooked for only 1 shift a week. I left my self open to be able to pick up more shifts, but with not wanting to get student loans this year I had to go back in to Canadian Tire and give them my availability there so that I could get a couple of shifts a week. I'm actually looking forward to working there a couple of days a week, it's not as near as nice of pay as RQHR, but it too was one of those jobs that I was good at and and found rewarding in its own way. What else is happening? I'm going to Red Deer tomorrow to visit with my Dad, that should be interesting. It's too bad that Jordan can't come with me because this weekend would have been the last couple of days we have off together for the next 3 weeks or so. Oh! There's a present thing! In both the temporal and gift sense! Jordan found a full time job! It's with SaskDrama, a company she had already worked for last summer, but it's full time for the year, salary and everything!

The Future:
Jordan and I decided that student loans were getting on the higher side, not that it's too bad when you look at how much school we've done, but now that Jordan is done school and she'll have to start paying back the loans this year, we figured that we would try and not get any more. That's why I'm going to be able to work more days this year, because one of the ways to keep loans down is by being able to pay for the classes you take, which mean only taking 3 instead of 5 a semester. I'm hoping that by taking less classes this year I'll be able to get my GPA up a little too. Well that's pretty much going to be my life for the next little while. Hope it's not too boring for you... hope it's not too boring for me!

Oops! That's right, I'm lying on the floor thinking about why my back hurts so much. I don't know if it's sympathy pains from Nix, but now my back is out and I feel like crap! I guess I'll head to the doctors tomorrow so I can get a reference to start seeing a message therapist (otherwise my health plan won't cover the charges). I've never been to one before, my entire life (since I was 5) I have been seeing chiropractors but now Jordan won't let me because of what happened last time. I'm going to be working for a company called CATAL as a Student Business Advisor. It actually should be fun, and is a fairly good wage increase. The original plan was to go to a B&B that Ethan and J had been to before way up north above North Battelford, SK. But that got cut short the week before when they called to inform us that the Manager of the place had gone in for emergency surgery that day. So we searched for a new place and found this one!

It was a nice relaxing place where we had the entire basement to ourselves (Ethan, J, Jordan and I). We had use of everything from their 32" TV, DVD, VCR, and Satellite to the Hot Tub in the back yard (which is great at -5oC). They had these beds that they had specialty ordered from a company called Labbe in Calgary (they were kinda like memory foam, but way better). The breakfasts were incredible and more then we could all eat. The Family was extremely nice to us and tried to accommodate us at ever turn (She is a Landscape Designer and He is a retired RCMP). Overall it was a great trip and I would recommend the place to anyone!

J playing Trivial Pursuit

Ethan doing L5R (Alone!)

Me twiddling my thumbs (Seriously!)

Great little fireplace we got to use

Tagged!

Did you know that....

Four jobs I've had:
1. Or really, Human nature? As I was watching these two boys run around the house (and on me occasionally) I noticed some behavioral patterns. Some of these were easy to define and identify their source, but others were more elusive. The times when they would go to bed or take a nap you could easily see where they had gained their attitudes; their parents. You could just see all the work that Beth and Jeff had put into them really paying off. The same was true of the "please" and "thank you’s" that where said. But it was some of the other things that they did that got me thinking.

TV has a huge impact on people, anyone who disagrees we can argue that later, and I could see it in the way that my nephews would behave at certain times. They watch a lot of Disney cartoons (mostly older shorts like Donald Duck, or Mickey Mouse) and in 99% of these cartoons there is a gun, sword or cannon. In all of them there is a winner and a looser (no compromise or win-win scenarios). And the win-lose situation is almost always derived from one person not liking someone else which leads to words like "you're despicable, I hate you" -Daisy Duck. Now I know that I never thought about these cartoons in a bad way before, and never really considered them to influential, but when I heard my 3 year old nephew saying those same words I have to think about it.

My point for this whole post, if its not completely lost at this point, is that there was a 3rd area that I saw this last weekend. The times when their behavior was not derived from what their parents have taught them or from what the TV has shown them. This was most evident when one of them wanted something that the other had. What do you think most kids do when they want something? They grab for it! Well at least until they are taught not to. But their very first instinct without being taught is to grab, "MINE!". The only conclusion that I can come to is that there must be something behind this behavior otherwise not all kids would do it. And as I said in my last post, my nephews are two of the most well behaved kids I've seen, but even they do this occasionally. When the younger of the two does it, you can tell that most of the time its because he wants to be like his older brother, but that’s not always the case. And when the older pulls the same stunt it almost purely out of jealousy. This makes me think and believe more then ever that Humans are sinful by nature (I've been having this discussion with a few people as of late). I personally can't see any other way around it. Maybe I'm wrong, you tell me.

Now I really can't decide

So I just spent the weekend babysitting my 2 nephews while my Sister in-law and her husband take a weekend off and yes I'm still alive! Now you might not think the last statement important until I tell you that the boys are only 2 and 3 years old. I could tell you that Jord and I had our hands full, but the truth is that aside from being worn out from all the playing the weekend was awesome! They are the 2 of the best behaved kids I have ever seen. There is of course the occasional altercation where one of them take something from the other one or accidentally gets hit with a hockey stick, but they are otherwise really really good. They nap when the need to, they eat when they are hungry, they are polite, and best of all they go to bed when you tell them and sleep the whole night without any accidents. But this brings me to a point in my life. Having kids. Not that Jord and I are actually considering it, more that I start to think about what my kids will be like. Will they be behaved and nice like my 2 nephews? Or the more likely; will they be like I was at that age? I'm not sure I can handle that. I mean, I had a great weekend, but I'm tired, oh am I tired! What if I had to do that everyday (not just for 2) and they are not as easy to handle? I know I'm just stressing about something I can't control for the most part, and I do believe that when I do have kids, God will give me the strength I need, but still, little me's running around? Scary thought!

Honestly!

Alright! What is it with all you people? YES Jordan and I are doing well! I don't know what it is, everyone keeps asking that question; granted it's all the non-Christian people that I know, that think we were nuts for getting married so young when we don't have kids. Actually it's kinda funny, they think it's weird to be married so young, and I think it's weird not to be. Considering that most the people that I hang around with are either married, getting married, or in a relationship that is heading in that direction; and they are all around my age. So really what is it? I even catch my self doing it occasionally. What is it that makes us think that just because 2 people have got married young, it must be because shes pregnant or a kid is involved somehow. Now it is true that I know a couple of couples that are married young because of a pregnancy, but still. On the other hand I don't understand why there are all these newly* married couple that are getting pregnant. Not that I'm coming down on their choices, all the more power to them. Just seems that Jordan and I are one of the only couples that I know that are going to actually try and wait till we are done school. Maybe we just think to sensibly sometimes (not always a good thing).

P.S. On the same note, after all my ranting, my brother and his wife are going to have a baby! Good!). I'm at university again, and this semester should be really good. I'm taking managerial finance and accounting, human resources, economics, and even french! I know what your thinking, "Jesse and french? Not such a good idea", but actually I'm really enjoying it. Of course my lovely wife is helping me when she can (if you think my schedule is bad you should see hers). I really am enjoying my classes, I much prefer taking stuff that is more specialized then generalized, even if it is harder sometimes. I found a new out about a new job that I never knew existed, Financial Engineering, sounds great doesn't it? The actual description is a little long and boring, but basically you create and monitor securities for financial markets. Okay, I'm noticing that blank expression... alright, you know the stuff that they embed into cheques? The watermarks, secure lines, things of that nature? It's like that but on computers for the world financial market. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Speaking of work though, I just applied for, and got into, the Co-op program. So now I have to start applying for a shwack-load of jobs, and hopefully I get a couple of interviews, and more importantly a job. I would really love to get some more experience. What else can I tell you? Nothing that I can think of at the moment. Not to say that there is anything in particular that I hate. I just seem to be stuck in a rut, and to make it worse, I think that I'm okay with that, even though I know that I shouldn't be. Well I guess it gets me down sometimes, like at this moment, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this (then again it could be that bad cheese I ate earlier). I think I need to come up with something new. Any suggestions?? I think that I'm just sick of being okay with not going out, not having any close friends (besides Jordan), and not changing anything. I don't know, maybe I'm dwelling on the past to much. I think that a lot of this is coming from the anxiety that I'm having about what to do with my life. I thought I wanted to do accounting, but I'm not sure that I'm getting it enough to do it for the rest of my life, then again I could not be getting it because I was being lazy and not doing the amount of work that was actually required (that's changed now, I'm playing catch-up). Still I'm not feeling good about something, I just can't put my finger on it. I really hope it starts working out, that would be good.

Alaska!

So I was in Alaska the other day... and that got no reaction from you at all did it? Didn't think so. Well that's too bad for you because I'm going to tell you anyway.

Jordan and I went to Alaska on a cruise for our honeymoon just before school started (just a couple of months late). I must say that it was absolutely amazing! The people, the sights, the FOOD! The amount that we go to do and see was incredible. We could have ate food 24/7 at the 3 different restaurants, 5 or 6 cafes, room service, self-serve soft ice cream, not to mention the 2 midnight buffets that we had (an Ice Scuplture and Chocolate theme). Some of the towns we visited were spectacular, but the most amazing spot was the Misty Fjords, probably the most beautiful spot I have ever seen (I'd show pictures but we went through them during dinner, and I didn't have my camera). And the people were outstanding. The crew were always courteous, polite and would do most anything you asked. At every dinner we would sit with 6 other people (it was supposed to be 8 but that's another story), Darryl and Leahan, Robin and Mika, and Henry and Tess. Lets just say that you would probably not be able to find a more misfit group of people (you could tell that we were the 'leftovers' that the cruise just stuck together), but that made it all the more fun. Sometimes we would hang around and do stuff with the people from our table and sometimes we would just do things by ourselves; but we always had fun. From the Ice Sculpting show, the nightly Broadway musicals, half a dozen comedy and entertainment acts, and endless musical groups (mostly jazz) playing across the ship. I would defiantly go again.

Taken at Hubbard Glacier

Inside the Ship

One of the Midnight Buffets

Just because

See, I told you that this wouldn't be much different then my real journal. Work is still going well, my hole counts are going down slowly, though I think that there are going to go up this week because THEY have given me a few more aisles to do (and they're all bloody paint, half of which I'm missing!) But on the up side I got a pin today from the owner of the store (so did a couple other people). It's an "Attitude" pin, think they're trying to tell me something? Really it's pretty cool, if I get 3 more then I get a pair of movie tickets, woohoo! I'm still really tired all the time, and I don't think that's going to change much, but at least I have somewhere to go, I'm very very thankful for that.

Oh! Bye for now.

Ugh, employment...

Oh man! So I've been working for about a week and a half now and boy have I forgotten what is was like to get up early everyday. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that have a job to go to, and am able to support my wife. But I can't remember the last time that I was constantly this tired (well, since the last time that I had a job anyway). Work is going well though, its simple enough anyway; there is some presure with having to make sure that the hole count it down (because that would be bad if it went up), but I really like the people there (even the owner seems nice). But we shall see how it goes. I really hope that I can do well at this job, maybe I can keep it for a long time. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, but for now I'm going to enjoy the fact that for the first time in a couple of months I feel pretty good about myself. I mean, I'm an old fashion kind of guy, when I got married I have to admit that I had the mentality of "the man providing for his family" (bringing home the proverbial bacon as it were). Jordan has never minded this view, as she is old fashion herself. But I must say that not being able to do that lately has really gotten me down. But now I can, because I was offered (and took) a job at the Canadian Tire that is close to my house, and this makes me happy (because I can get a Gamecube. Just kidding... seriously! Brooks 2 South forever!) Anyway, I have just one more final to go, so I should continue studying at some point here. I'm happy that there is only one left, but I'm not enjoying the fact that its at 7pm on a Friday night, and two of my friends (J and Ethan) are getting married an hour before it begins (in Calgary, 7 hour drive away). But such is life and one must continue on in life, isn't that the fun part?

...phone rings...

Well what do you know. I just got a call for another job (plant and flower delivery). I told the guy that I would meet with him sometime tonight (he has to call me back in a bit to confirm a time). I think that this would be a good job too (depends on how much he's going to offer me) so we will have to see how it turns out.

Wouldn't you know it

Alright, so the heart and stroke finaly got back to us, wana know what they said? I am sorry forthe lack of communication but we only made a decision this Wednesday.Unfortunately, we did review your resumes but Rob and I have decided togo in a new direction with a new pair this year. We feel that they willbring some fresh and new ideas and approaches to the Big Bike. Thanks again for applying.
Sincerely,
S.M.

New direction!? Are you kidding me!? I mean really what I load of garbage. This is the Big Bike job were talking about, how many more directions can you go (other then straight that is). Actualy I'm not that mad at HSF, really I more mad at the rejection, I've been getting rejected for jobs a lot lately. And these arn't just random jobs either, they are ones that I feel I would be good at (because I've done something similar if not that exact job before). Of course not. Don't get me wrong I loved working for HSF last year, and I really really want to do it agian this year, but sometimes, they get just a little bit behind. And it just get a little frustrating to just sit here. That combined all the finals that Jordan and I are having to study for and write, and the fact that I've been really sick since Sunday afternoon has lead to a tiresome week to say the least. But life is good, having to rely on God shows me that more and more everyday. I hope that all of you realize the joy of being alive today, whatever your strife. And now I'll say good bye before this gets any cheesier.

I've done it!

I've learned how to post pictures, and I thought it only fitting that this be my first. Oh well, I used to do the same thing with other journals (not diaries... I swear if one more person...*). Anywho, besides school being done there is not a whole lot of other stuff going on that I can talk about. Oh I know, I could tell you all that I applied to work with the Heart and Stroke again this summer to do the Big Bike program [Big? Bike? Big Bike? Big Bike!] I haven't found out if I got the job yet our not, and its really starting to get to me because I really want to know. Hey I have an idea, if I get the job then every time I can get access to the net I should write in my blog about how its going. Might not be that exciting for you, but it would be for me. Maybe if I can convince HSF to buy a digital camera then I could post pictures too (yes Dar7rell, I'll show you how). I'm starting to get kind of excited about this, now if I could only get the job. Hope your all having a great day!

Rounding second

Now, I know that all of you are sitting there going "second...? ewwww" and I assure you that is not what I ment (all you sick minded people). All I ment is that this is my second blog.

You'll notice that this blog is relatively close in time to that of my first. I had originally intended to wait until I had something useful to say to all my fans out there, but I came to two great realization, can you guess them??

1) I have no fans, so it really means jack all if I wait
2) I never have anything good to say anyway

Knowing these 2 things, I decided that I would rather post something as incoherent as this just so that I can see what my post look like with multiple posts on it.

Wow! How insightful was that!

WooHoo!

I just created my first Blog... this would be it... this thing right here... alright, alright, I'll come up with better material later.

P.S.
